I started with this odd bass riff, that expanded into something a bit dark and moody, and in the end, the track would likely have been improved by actually removing the initial riff and just sticking with what came after.

These things happen. Under much more normal circumstances, I’d be able to recognize this and adjust accordingly, but again, in a 2-hour window, you need to quickly commit to decisions in order to get the thing done in time.
